  • In 2013, manufacturing provided $19.8 billion to Maryland's gross domestic product, slightly down from $20.0 billion in 2012.

    According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the highest employment was in the computer and electronic products industry (15,716 jobs), the food manufacturing industry (11,976 jobs), and chemical manufacturing (9,937 jobs). With total value of shipments of manufactured goods in 2013 at $40.5 billion, total annual payroll by Maryland manufacturers was $6.0 billion paid to 97,994 workers.

    In 2012, Maryland manufacturing was led by chemical manufactures ($6.6 billion), computer and electronic product manufactures ($3.9 billion), food, beverage and tobacco manufactures ($2.7 billion), and plastics and rubber manufactures ($922 million).
