TALBOT COUNTY, MARYLAND

EXECUTIVE BRANCH

PLANNING

ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

PLANNING & PERMITS DEPARTMENT

The Planning and Permits Department was created in July 2011, when the Office of Permits and Inspections merged with the Office of Planning and Zoning. The Department plans for the physical development and growth of the County. It also recommends revisions of the Comprehensive Plan, and preparates revisions, from time to time, of rules and regulations concerning planning and zoning. In addition, the Office administers and enforces the zoning map and zoning rules and regulations.

In Talbot County, building codes are administered and enforced by the Department. The purpose of the codes is to set standards to safeguard life or limb, health, and public welfare. The codes apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of buildings or structures, or any appurtenances connected or attached to them in the County (County Charter, sec. 403; County Code, secs. 28-1 through 28-5).
